At Outdoor Living Australia, we prioritize the customer experience in our hire experience and products we sell. Our spit rotisseries are made from premium stainless steel, including 304 food grade safe stainless steel for the skewer and all accessories.

Unique Hire Experience

Our hire service has four major differences to normal hires:

  1. We drop the spit off and pick the spit up. No need to come to us to collect and drop off.
  2. We will fully set up your pig, lamb, roast meats etc for you on the day and get the charcoal going.
  3. Once on and started we then show you how to monitor the cook and answer any questions. This means we stay for about 1 - 2 hours on set up.
  4. We are available throughout the rest of the cook day via phone or video chat to help with any issues that may arise (this doesn't happen very often but we are available).

As such, we consider our hires a service rather than a hire equipment. The two options for spits are:

  • 1200 mm Spit Roaster - this is suitable for pigs under 18 kg OR 3 large (7kg ) pieces of roast meat (usually lamb or pork legs or beef shoulders etc) - $349
  • 1500 mm Spit Rotisserie - this is suitable for all whole pigs and lambs (or other wild game etc) or 4 large roast meats - $399

What we do in our Hire Experience

Both services include the following:

  • We drop it off and pick it up from your location.
  • We stay for 1 - 2 hours and set everything up including getting the charcoal burning, the animal or roast meats on the skewer. We use all the right attachment accessories and get it secured and turning on the spit.
  • The charcoal is locally sourced 100% QLD gidgee charcoal - 10 kg is included in the hire but we will bring a 20 kg bag just in case.
  • We provide a chimney, heat resistant gloves, charcoal prongs.
  • We provide salt, olive oil, stainless steel wire (to stitch the belly cavity) and butcher's twine to secure legs and other areas that may require it.
  • We will show you how to finish the cook, when to add charcoal, when and how to raise and lower the spit and things to look out for.

What we don't provide is the following:

  • The whole animal or roast meats you want to cook
  • The stuffing for the belly - usually this is the following:
    - 2 kg of apples and 2 kg of onions for a whole pig.
    - 1 kg of lemons and 1 kg of onions and rosemary stigs for lambs.
  • Any rubs you may want if you dont want salt (which we provide).

Additional Extras & Logistics

Each product has a calendar at the top of the page. Days in RED indicate if the item is unavailable. If the days are not in red, it is available. Simply choose any extras required and provide an email and phone number at checkout and we will contact you to book in the days. 

The additional extras are:

  • DELIVER FEE - there is a delivery fee based on location that radiates out from the Redlands area. It simply covers fuel and both our time for two trips there and back. The fee can be found by entering a postcode on any hire page or you can call us and we can check for you.
  • 10 kg of charcoal should be enough for a 6-8 hour cook which will be anything you are looking to cook. However, we will bring 20 kg just in case. Anything used after the 10 kg we can charge when we come to pick it up or usually we just ask for a review (good or bad). If you dont use the extra 10 kg we just take it back with us when we leave. The charcoal is $39 per 10 kg.
  • $30 cleaning fee - we recommend this as cleaning them can be painful. However, you don't have to and people have cleaned them before. In either case the remaining meat or animal carcass must be removed from the skewer before we take it away.

We have attached a video that shows exactly what you could expect from us if you were cooking a whole pig, however, it is almost the same for any animal at all.
